Frequently Asked Questions
The SB Energy team is committed to transparent and open communications. Below are answers to commonly asked questions. SB Energy will host Open House meetings with the local community over the coming months.
The first phase of the PORTS Technology Campus will constitute an approximately $30-40 billion investment for an approximately 800 MW data center. Nearly 4,000 construction jobs will be created as well as approximately 300 to 400 jobs during operations. The project has begun early civil works, with full construction starting in 2026.
SB Energy, a U.S. company, will own and operate the data center.
In the coming months, SB Energy will announce the customer for the initial phase of the data center.
There will be a wide range of onsite operations jobs including electricians, plumbing, landscaping, janitorial, security, engineering, maintenance technicians, facilities management, data center operations, networking, and construction.
SB Energy will develop new energy generation and grid reliability to match the need for the PORTS Technology Campus and the broader Ohio region. Part of that new generation will be 10 GW of new power generation to meet the data center power demand. Of that 10 GW, 9.2 GW is new gas generation funded through the US-Japan Strategic Trade and Investment Agreement led by the Department of Commerce to ensure regional electricity prices are not affected.
The gas generation will be owned by the U.S. Government. More here from the Department of Commerce.
