America’s AI Leadership Grows from the Heartland
Modern data centers are the backbone for America’s digital economy and US competitiveness. SB Energy is developing the PORTS Technology Campus in Pike County, continuing the county and the region’s long tradition of powering national growth and security.
To support the PORTS Technology Campus and the region, SB Energy is developing new energy generation and grid infrastructure. The new gas power generation matches the data center power demand and will be brought online to ensure supply and demand are balanced. The new natural gas generation is funded in part by Japan and the Department of Commerce in part to ensure regional electricity prices are not affected. SB Energy will also invest $4.2 billion with AEP Ohio to upgrade new lines creating a national-scale high-voltage backbone improving regional electrical reliability.
Critical National Digital Infrastructure
SoftBank Group and SB Energy, a SoftBank company, are partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to build a 10 GW data center across private and remediated DOE land.
Construction will take place in phases. The first 800 MW phase of the Portsmouth Technology Campus, located at the historic Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion site, will start construction in 2026.

No Ratepayer Impact
SB Energy has agreed to fund upfront 100% of the cost of grid upgrades, new transmission, and new power plants. Ohio ratepayers will benefit from a stronger transmission grid and more reliable power without any increase in electricity rates.
Water
The AI data center will incorporate a closed-loop cooling system, which minimizes water needs for the site.
Multi-Generational Investment in Ohio and America’s Future
PORTS Technology Campus will be a significant source of new jobs and tax revenue for local services. SB Energy has committed to a $40 million Community Benefits Agreement and are actively working with local organizations to host jobs fairs.
SB Energy is committed to responsible development, construction, and operations with the community and environment foremost in mind. PORTS Technology Campus and the associated powered infrastructure continues Southern Ohio’s long tradition in powering US energy and security– now with new opportunities for future generations.
